Thriftin' Tuesday: ECO Friendly Hair Scrunchi Holder

Recently my husband and I watched "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold," which is a documentary about how we are ruthlessly advertised to just about everywhere. In this particular film, there was a company who was one of the sponsors that sells Pomegranate juice, that is 100% juice. After seeing this film, we decided to pick it up at the store today to try it out. After hubby went to work I found his empty POM bottle next to the computer. As I looked at the structure and design of the packaging, I was hit with a thought...this would make a good scrunchi holder...if I fill it with the small stones from my last project, it would be heavy enough to where it won't knock over so easily when i grab a scrunchi in a hurry...

So, I took his empty bottle, rinsed it out and then using a folded peice of paper as a funnel I dropped my stones from walmart's decor department, into the bottle. I must say this really made it quite heavy.
Not only does this hold my hair ties well but my sport stretch headbands too!!

A set of these would even make interesting bookends for a small collection of books...prehaps even in the kitchen for cookbooks(!).  I believe it will work quite nicely. What is so great about this is using what I have to make something I can keep using over and over. It is unique, cute, and FUNCTIONAL. I LOVE IT!!!This project took me less than ten minutes to throw together! Hardly any cleanup!!!

Alexeter Mineral Makeup Review

I was sent samples from the lovely Princess Collection.
A few weeks ago I was sent samples of the Princess collection from Alexeter Mineral Makeup.  Alexeter minerals are perfect to use for eyes face and nails. You can even add water to these shadows for bolder effects on the lids! This company is based in Canada.   I tried the pink shades given to me together to create a soft girly look, and the green and yellow shades together for a more tropical, beachy flair. I did not use water, but I plan to try it out in the future to see which way I would like it better.
These pigments are very vibrant and shimmery. Super gorgeous! I had a lot of fun sporting these shades, and loved how there was hardly any fallout upon application.  Alexeter has many collections: Summer Line, High Society Collection, Artiste Collection, and a Cottage Trail Collection. Something for everyone!
All the pigments were such a delight; I honestly cannot tell you which of the pigments I like better that I have tried. They are all beautiful, and complimented my skin tone and features very well.

"Caribbean Maiden" using Princess Buttercup and Princess Toad

I just love how summery this looks!

These shades really bring out the green in my hazel eyes!

I sported this look tonight at a health seminar. So much fun!

I'VE GOT MAIL!!

My "welcome packet" from http://i-candycouture.com/
Last week I talked to a dear friend of mine, Honey, I had met on youtube. I have known her for a while; she has been one of my early subscribers to my youtube channel.  I found last month, that she has her own company called I-Candy Couture. Honey sells all kinds of  affordable accessories ranging from the cute, blinged out, to lovely handcrafted items. At present she sells jewelry, hats, hair accessories, and has plans to bring in clothing and even handbags (I am looking forward to her new hair accessories coming out!). Her company's mission is to provide show stopping accessories at very reasonable prices for today's women on a budget.

Price: $6.00  Handmade Turqoise Shell Dangle Earrings
I received my "welcome packet" today, as Honey has so graciously accepted me as one of her promoters. I was delighted to find in my package a pair of gorgeous, turquoise, shell dangle earrings. In about a week I will be reviewing these earrings on my youtube channel.  I am so excited to share this company with you and will be looking forward to present my experience for your consideration.

Pieces I have been watching from I-Candy Couture...

Pearls! I am in LOVE!! I really want to add this to my collection eventually...

I love long earrings; so chic.

I showed my mother this beautiful pair of earrings and was surprised by her response. She loved them! Mother and I have very different tastes in regard to earrings. She likes studs; I love dangles and chandeliers. We both are not into the major turquoise trend right now, but there is just a little touch of turquoise in the earrings I was sent and not too much to make it look "over done." I truly love handcrafted accessories and even more so when they are created by friends!

The Greatest Bargain of the Week!

Have you ever just happen to be at the right place at the right time and spotted an AMAZING deal for something you truly admire? Garage sale? Thrift store? Ebay?  Then you would know the rush of excitement you feel, as your jaw hits the floor, when you look at the price for a SECOND TIME. Then you think, THAT IS MINE!
Or, maybe I am just a crazy loon and do not know what I am talking about. However, that is exactly how I felt today.  I dropped by our local library to wash my hands after my five mile walk.  I had found a wild mulberry bush on my walk and decided to make it's offerings my breakfast, but was alarmed to find that the delicious berries left juices on my hands. Being very careful the whole way back, as I was wearing a new white blouse, I made my way to the library.
Now our library sells donated books, cd's, videos, and art very cheap in the entrance room. I browsed their selection, after ridding the stains off my hands, and spotted a gorgeous Victorian inspired family memory album. I didn't have any cash on me, save some change. So I took the album to one of the librarians at the front desk. I asked her how much it was, and she said one dollar. When I asked her if she could hold on to it for me until I could return I was afraid she would say no. Yet, she agreed.

These are only just a few of the pages in this beauty.

Front Cover with ties to keep closed

Elaborate Detailing on the back cover

Later I picked it up and brought it home. My mother and I took a really good look at each page in the beautiful book.  She also loves the Victorian era as much as I.  With each page topic there are places to write names and dates. Around which is bordered with Victorian trinkets, tea things, ect... to represent that particular topic. To the other side of the page are windows to place photos for that occasion. Just darling!!
I plan on waiting until my daughter is grown before adding pictures or information to this book. It will be nice to have it all done at once. In the meantime, I have my family scrapbook to keep me busy.

I'VE GOT MAIL!!!

Whoohoo! FINALLY!!!
After the loooong two week wait, finally the highly anticipated package from Kimi, at Korpse Kosmetics (http://www.facebook.com/KorpseKosmetics), has arrived.  I was totally amazed at the pigments I had recieved in the mail. I had ordered a Lip Paint called Super Nova, which is a pretty pink nude shade.  I was confused when I saw the jar filled with liquid.  Perhaps it had melted because of the heat? After talking to Kimi about it, via Facebook, I was assured that this is its natural state. I had a ditz moment, I guess. That's why it's called Lip "PAINT" dum dum! At any rate I tried it on, applying it with a lip brush that I had on hand. So far it feels really smooth, and gives a soft tint to my lips.

A list of ingredients with my new makeup
I also received the two free eye shadows of my choice (a special that is running to the end of this month-with any order get two free shadows). I had picked out Junkie, a light shimmery sapphire blue, and I.L.U., a cute dark semi-shimmer pink.

Kimi actually enclosed a "Birthday Surprise" for me as well. I will be celebrating my 22nd birthday in September. I was delighted to find a Killer eye shadow, a vibrant white shimmer, and an Excorist eyeshadow, a bright ivy green in my package. It was so sweet of her to include this in the delivery. I am looking forward to trying everything out. It is awesome that I have a white shimmer now from her company, as I had wished for a highlight to use in my tutorials with her other shades I already have.

Wearing the new Lip Paint Super Nova

There was also a slip of paper describing the ingredients used in her shadows. I truly enjoy reading what is in my cosmetics, as I find it very interesting and informative. It's going to be so much fun creating looks with her makeup!! And I am totally looking forward to my previous order to arrive from her, too. I ordered the Moon Dancer pigment that I was nuts about!!!

Fufill Your NEED to Scrapbook But SAVE!!

After I found I was pregnant I began to brainstorm on how to afford scrapbooking on a budget. All the pretty decals, backgrounds, fancy getup costs so much. Walmart was even supposed to be "cheap," however unless they had something on sale or clearance, I found this not to be the case.  I knew I could find appliques somewhat less expensive at thrift stores and garage/yard sales. But when my baby shower came around the corner then it hit me....why not use the gift bags, wrapping paper, and paper decorations for scrap booking? I then saved ALL my bags that my well wishers put the gifts in. They are perfect for the backgrounds and layouts for my photos. Some of the bags even came with 3-D art that I could reuse as appliques. It was a sheer delight to discover not only a unique way to scrapbook a family album (featuring a little child) but a way to limit the expense!! This would even work for gift bags for Christmas, Birthdays, Anniversaries, and even Weddings!

Such cute feathers on this Duck!

Such a sweet picture...

This 3D decals would be perfect for appliques.
This economy has really challenged me to be as "thrift" as I possibly can in many ways. Not only is this cheaper, but it can be considered eco-friendly as well. Instead of throwing wrapping paper or cute gift bags away I have discovered that they can serve a purpose in many different ways. Scrap booking being just one of many.  I am looking forward to documenting with such fun designs given to me by my friends and family.

Dawn Eyes Cosmetics

I was a bit overwhelmed when I was to pick 10 shadows for samples to try out when I visited Dawn Eyes Cosmetics website. I have never seen so many different shades of loose pigments on an online store. And imagine my surprise when they had arrived in the mail!! The pictures taken for each of the colors on http://www.dawneyescosmetics.com/ truly do not do the pigments justice! Such gorgeous shimmers!!! I am actually looking forward to the day when our family is set and I can use my personal blow money to buy them out each month!

"Dewy Moss" using  Holographic White, Glittering Aquamarine, Take Your Teal, and Dew Drops for this look.

A STATEMENT FROM DAWN EYES ABOUT THEIR PRODUCTS: "Dawn Eyes Cosmetics is a very small mineral makeup start-up located in mid-Missouri, USA. The inspiration for Dawn Eyes Cosmetics was the closing of a mineral makeup company from which I used to purchase all of my eye shadows. An investment in raw ingredients from the closing company brought more than I could possibly use in a lifetime, and so I started making eye shadows for friends and family. Once I had started I couldn't get enough of creating gorgeous shades: simple day-to-day shades, pearly and soft shimmering shades, and all-out glittery creations that I love to wear day or night.
I started giving away samples to anyone who was the least bit interested and soon I had people asking for specific colors they wanted me to create or for full sized jars of sample colors they'd been given. Up to a point, this worked fairly well, but then I discovered that my friends were giving some of their samples to their friends, and were even being asked by acquaintances and co-workers where they'd gotten the lovely shades, so somehow I had to reach those people too! Well, no one is anyone unless they have a website, so after much thought (I originally hadn't intended to make a business out ot it) and making sure that I had the blessing of the owner of my former favorite place, as well as checking on available names, Dawn Eyes Cosmetics was born." (http://www.dawneyescosmetics.com/about_us.html)

Their colors are just BREATHTAKING!!! This is definitely a store I want to keep tabs on for purchases in the future! Perfect for everyday. The shadows do not "lose" their shimmer when applied. They have many soft neutral colors, and a some really bold bright colors. A store that has everything for everyone. I will be working on a tutorial in future for the Dewy Moss (and prehaps others as time allows, using the other samples they sent). But for now here are photos of Dewy Moss and swatches of other colors sent. I was sent the samples in baggies; I have 5 gram eyeshadow jars I use to pot samples, thus making it easier to handle the products without spilling.
